You can use the desktop level editor to create your own levels. You can download the editor and try it out here:
If you are running on a Mac and get a message saying it couldn't check for malware, select "Done", then go to your Mac's System Settings, select "Privacy & Security", then scroll down to the bottom and select "Open Anyway".
To test your levels, you'll need to purchase Candy Bear 2 (the level tester is not available in Candy Bear 2 Free).
If you create a level that you'd like to share, finish playing the level and hit the "Share" button once you do.
Your level will be evaluated and, if it meets our standards, will be published to the Community Levels within a few days or weeks depending on the current backlog. We reserve the right to make modifications to your level before release. If you have any questions or comments about the levels you share with us, feel free to contact us. Also contact us if you'd like to share your name or initials as the level creator in the credits page on this web site. Please note that not all levels will be released. If you'd like to have a discussion about your level, feel free to join us on our Discord channel.
Tips on Creating Community Levels
- Make sure any bonus coins you add are possible.
- Players should have to go out of their way to get bonus coins (i.e., you shouldn't place them next to candies that they have to get).
- Don't force the player to die to get a bonus coin.
- Try not to make your level too luck-based (dependent on bunny behavior to be able to finish).
- Don't add too many coins and candy just for the sake of racking up points.
- You should usually be able to get about 1000 - 10,000 points on the level (more points should be reserved for harder levels).
- Don't give players too much time. A good run (without dying) should usually finish with about 30-60 seconds left on most levels. (Remember, every time the bear dies you lose 15 seconds.)
- Don't make repetitive levels (i.e., making the user do the same thing over and over again).
- Don't make levels too similar to existing levels.
- Try to place portals so that the user can see the other portal when they're near the first portal (unless the portal transports the bear to a safe place).
- Don't forget about adding one or two multiplier stars to your level.
- Use coin and candy values wisely (don't make gold and blue bonus coins easy to get).
- We recommend you don't add hearts unless there is a very high likelihood a player will die.
- Don't make the user have to know the door position in advance to finish the level without dying (unless they should be able to deduce the door position).
- Make sure the level is still possible even if the bear dies once (this can sometimes be a problem if they've already opened a gray gate they weren't supposed to).
- You can now set the survival bonus value (use Edit Width/Bonus Timer). Survival bonus values range from 100 points for easy levels, to 1250 points for master levels. Set yours accordingly.
For Performance Reasons (on older Roku devices):
- Don't have too many lasers (try to keep it to 12 or less).
- Don't have too many bunnies (try to keep it to 20 or less).
- The combination of bunnies and moving platforms will affect performance, so try to keep one or the other relatively small.
